SIRS Compare · Open school-location sources

Compare and cross-match open school-location datasets over high-resolution satellite imagery for five West African countries. Switch to the Agreement view to see which schools appear in both OpenStreetMap and Overture Maps, which are unique to one source, and how well their names agree. Toggle on building footprints and school-grounds polygons to check points against actual campuses. Giga (UNICEF) school data is intentionally excluded from this public app and is compared in a separate private variant.

Imagery: Esri World Imagery. Click a point or polygon for details.

Matching: an OSM and an Overture point are paired when they are within 100 m of each other, or within 300 m with similar names (1:1, best pair first). In the Agreement view, matched pairs are cyan and joined by a line when you zoom in.

Footprints: OSM school grounds are amenity=school polygons (campus outlines). OSM school buildings are building footprints that intersect school grounds, are tagged as schools, or contain a school point. Overture edu buildings are footprints tagged subtype=education. Comparing them shows where each source has real polygon coverage rather than just a point.

All layers are clipped to admin-0 boundaries. Counts are per source, not de-duplicated.
